MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- More details about the mother and daughter who were hit by a car while crossing the street on Tuesday morning have been released, including the identity of the driver. The hit and run killed the 4-year-old girl. Family members tell CBS 58 the young girl's name is Zekani Hymes and her mother is Gloria Hymes.

A law enforcement source tells us Donald Crayton, a 30-year-old man, is who police believe was driving at the time of the hit-and-run. Police say charges will be filed in the coming days.

Bears, balloons and candles mark the spot where a life was taken too soon. On N. Teutonia Avenue, a memorial honors 4-year-old Zekani Hymes.

“This is never a situation that should ever happen," said Elijah Hunt, Zekani’s godfather. "Just a ball of joy. She was the sweetest girl in the world.”

In surveillance video, the driver of the vehicle, and a passenger out of their car, run over to the mother and daughter they just hit and then leave - something that drew a strong reaction from Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson Tuesday afternoon.

“They should be able to go outside and play or cross streets with their parents without having to worry about somebody hitting them and then just leaving the scene. That is garbage. It’s garbage. It’s (expletive) and it should not happen. It should not happen," said Mayor Johnson.

Hunt was there when the hit-and-run happened.

"Seeing a mother lay in the street and I’m holding her hand. All she wants to know is how her baby is doing and I have to lie to her," said Hunt.

Hunt says he wants justice.

“For you to do that and not care – you need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," said Hunt.

He says Zekani should be here.

“She lit up my world," said Hunt.
