modifyng elephant exhibit after Ruth's fall
MILWAUKEE-Ruth the African elephant who fell down into a moat outside her enclosure Monday, was still showing no effects as of Tuesday afternoon.

She spent the day Tuesday indoors while crews worked to even out the earth of her outdoor exhibit and modify the steps so should she ever have to climb out again she'll have an easier time.

Zoo keepers say they believe she just simply lost her footing. Unfortunately there were no witnesses as to what exactly happened.

They say how she landed, on her feet, was critical to preventing injury.

It just so happens Monday was Ruth's birthday and although there was a little extra excitement both Ruth and her fellow elephant in the exhibit remained remarkably calm.

That lack of panic meant there was no way the animal could risk hurting herself or her human helpers.
