60-year-old man injured in industrial accident at Caterpillar Inc.

SOUTH MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) --  A 60-year-old man was injured in an industrial accident on Thursday afternoon.

It happened around 2 p.m. at Caterpillar, located in the 1100 block of Rawson Avenue.

A 60-year-old man was injured and taken to a local hospital. There is currently no word on his condition or the extent of his injuries.

The South Milwaukee Police Department, The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office, and OSHA are all investigating the accident. 

Caterpillar sent the following statement,


This afternoon, a Caterpillar employee working in the weld shop area at the South Milwaukee facility was struck by a steel plate. The incident resulted in serious injuries to the employee, who is now under medical care. Our thoughts and prayers are with this employee's family, friends and co-workers. Production employees were sent home immediately after the incident. The company also is arranging for counseling to be available to employees who may request it.
