WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) – A piece of history honoring veterans is in the area and you have a chance to experience it this weekend.
The Liberty Foundation’s B-17 Madras Maiden is one of only 12 B-17’s that’s still fly today and it’s currently in Waukesha.
The Warbird dubbed “The Flying Fortress” as a result of her defensive fire power saw action in every theater of operation during WWII.
The ‘Salute to Veterans’ tour is put on by the Liberty Foundation which travels the country to promote and share what WWII airmen experienced during their service.
“We're literally a flying museum, and wherever we go, needless to say, we attract a crowd, there's something about the b-17, she's legendary for a reason she's incredibly well built she's a tough and strong airplane,” said Liberty Foundation volunteer crew member Keith Youngblood.
Public flights and ground tours will be available Saturday and Sunday, July 14 and 15.
Flights are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every hour, on the hour. Ground tours are from 2:30-5:30 p.m.
