CBS 58's Bill Walsh Tours Factory that makes Packers Helmets

The helmets that protect Aaron Rodgers, BJ Raj, Ha Ha Clinton Dix, James Jones and 16 other Green Bay Packers are made at Schutt Sports in Salem Illinois

CBS 58 took a tour of the testing lab and checked out a lateral impactor. It tests to how much force a helmet can take and what kind of force an NFL or college player is taking during every game.

The helmets actually start as little plastic pallets that are then are molded into the shape of a helmet painted a special Packers gold and assembled.

All of the helmets made at Schutt are not made by machine, but rather assembled by hand.

Schutt just rolled out a new prototype helmet, worn for the last month by BJ Raji. They say it offers the same protection, but is lighter and thinner

Although Schutt says the helmets cannot guarantee players safety they are always looking for ways to innovate and keep players like Aaron Rodgers safe.
