Controlled burn leads to structure fire causing $30,000 in damage

TOWN OF OREGON, Wis. (WISC) -- A controlled burn in the Town of Oregon got out of control Wednesday evening and ignited a structure fire, officials said.

Firefighters with the Oregon Area Fire and EMS District were dispatched to the structure fire around 5:45 p.m. at 585 Tipperary Road. When crews arrived, they found a shed fully engulfed by fire with some extension into nearby vegetation, according to a news release from the district.

The shed contained large amounts of firewood and vehicles. Crews worked at putting out the fire until 8 p.m. The cause of the fire was a controlled burn by the property owner, officials said.

"An unattended part of the controlled burn is the apparent cause of the structure fire and it appears to be accidental in nature," Fire Chief Glenn Linzmeier said.

The fire caused about $30,000 in damage.
