Eviction prevention forum held in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A forum focused on eviction prevention was held Tuesday in Milwaukee.

CommonBond Communities, which works to provide people with affordable housing, led the event.

After meeting with Commonbond, city and community leaders, the Wisconsin Policy Forum put together information and suggestions on how to prevent evictions. According to the Wisconsin Policy Forum, in 2016, one in every 24 renter households was evicted.

The forum’s president says the issue not only impacts the person getting evicted but the whole community.

“When we talk about economic development, workforce development, education, these are all linked to housing," President Rob Henken said. "Having stable and secure housing is just a critical element for success for individuals."

Some suggestions from the Wisconsin Policy Forum include creating a tenant-landlord resource center and having a special fund for temporary financial assistance.
