Fatal Amtrak accident in Northbrook, IL

An unidentified pedestrian was struck and killed this morning at the crossing the Amtrak rail-line in Northbrook, Illinois.   According to a news release from Amtrak, the incident happened just after 9 AM when the Amtrak Hiawatha Train from Milwaukee to Chicago was involved in  a “trespasser incident” at the Northbrook Metra Station.   The accident occurred at a crossing.   The Metra Police are investigating the accident.

The Amtrak Hiawatha Train #332 was delayed for about two hours after the accident.  There were no injuries to the 126 passengers or crew.

According to Amtrak, the maximum track speed through the area is 79 miles-per-hour.
