FOND DU LAC/ SHEBOYGAN COUNTIES, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Emergency Management for both Fond du Lac and Sheboygan Counties are asking for the public to help clean up debris from severe storms and tornadoes that tore through on August 28. Many residents say they are still in need of help.

Homeowners tell CBS 58 they’ve been cleaning up since the storms and tornado hit and the cleanup is far from over.  Sheboygan County Resident Daniel Kaiser’s had 14 trees torn down on his property when the tornado hit. He has been cleaning up ever since.

“Hectic, tiring, as you can see we have piles and piles of wood,” Kaiser said.

The Kaiser’s have been getting help from friends and family and are thankful for volunteers, but say more residents need help.

“There are people that are elderly that need the help more than we do,” Kaiser said.

A United Way Volunteer Reception Center is being set up at the Plymouth Fire Station located at 111 East Main Street in the City of Plymouth to register and assign volunteers to assist in both Fond du Lac and Sheboygan Counties. Most of the cleanup is needed in the Osceola and Cascade areas.

“Volunteers are gonna be able to assist our team Rubicon members with things like tree removal, stacking wood, lifting logs, and stacking it up for folks,” said Amber Kilawee, Director of Fond du Lac Area United Way.

Team Rubicon, disaster response team is going out to assesses the damage. They have a crew of 20 volunteers in the area.

“There are about 150 homes damaged, we damage assessment teams out right now determining what type of damage there is, so we know who to send out in the coming week," said volunteer, Allison Reiley.

But they can’t do it all alone.

Jeff Baker of Beaver Dam answering the call for help. “I seen on the news last night on channel 58 that they were looking for volunteers to help with the disaster clean-up so that’s why I’m here,” Baker said.

Homeowners like Jesse are grateful.

“People have brought food to us, it’s so nice to know that there’s good people out there, so that we don’t feel alone.”

The Volunteer Reception Center will be open all week from September 9 until September 14 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. When volunteers sign in they will be given an assignment to report to for the next day. They will not be sent out the day of registration.

Volunteers will be given assignments from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. September 10 through September 15.

Volunteer registration can also be done on the phone by calling 920-893-0318.

Organizers are requesting that volunteers do not report to impacted areas without first signing in at the Plymouth Fire Station. Those that do will be turned away.

Residents who have damage to report are reminded to call 2-1-1.
