Grafton homeowner reports suspicious men who asked to inspect roof, demanded payment up front

GRAFTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a possible roofing scam.

A Grafton homeowner called the Sheriff's Office to report that three men arrived unannounced at her home near Lake Shore Road on August 10.

The men allegedly told the homeowner that they noticed some roof damage and needed to get up on their ladders to further inspect it.

The men then allegedly said they would need payment upfront and encouraged the home owner to go to a bank and get $9,500 in cash.

The homeowner asked for a quote on company letterhead. That's when the men said they'd do the job for $2,000. The homeowner told them no and they left.

The men were last seen driving an all-black SUV.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office.
