MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The national tour of the Broadway musical HAMILTON will play in Milwaukee as part of the 2019-2020 season.

Season subscriptions to the Marcus Center will guarantee seats for the premiere in Milwaukee. Exact dates and ticket information has not yet been released.

In December, 100 Golda Meir students went to see Hamilton in Chicago for free. Golda Meir is part of the Milwaukee Public School System that offers gifted and talented programs and services.

"My mind was blown," Student Laio Darnell said.

The story is all about Alexander Hamilton and teaches people about America's beginnings in a very unique way.

"They take the past and bring it to present with modern day rap, hip hop, R &B," Student Quinton Rodriquez said.

Many students said it made history more interesting.

"Social Studies class I'm sitting there like when is this going to be over," Darnell said. "But, when Hamilton's on, I'm like 'She did what?"

The Gilder Lehrman Institute partnered with Hamilton and The Rockefeller Foundation on the Hamilton Education Program. They work with schools in the US to get students to see the musical for a reduced rate. Each student has to create a historical piece using something like poetry, or rap. The Hamilton creator said it will reach more than 250,000 students over the next five years.

Theater teacher Tyne Turner hopes with the musical coming to Milwaukee, more students can see it.

"I'm so excited Hamilton is coming here so more kids will have this opportunity," Turner said.
