A homicide investigation is underway after a body is found in rural Dodge County.
According to authorities, they responded Wednesday night around 6 p.m. to a property on Redwing Road in the town of Lebanon. When they arrived, they discovered the body of a male.
Elaine Parys, who lives nearby noticed more activity than usual outside her window. “I saw cars out there and a man when it was still a little light out. He was walking by the cornfield, looking down in the cornfield,” she said.
At the time, she had no idea it was the scene of a crime.
“It shakes me up terrible, it’s scary cause we never have trouble like that around here. When you’re out in the country you just don’t think of things like that.”
However, Sheriff Dale Schmidt said the community is safe. The suspect is in custody for unrelated charges. At this time, they are not releasing the suspect's name in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
“It certainly does send some concern and shock to our citizens in our area,” he said.
Authorities are not releasing the name of the victim pending family notification.
The medical examiner is working to determine a cause of death.
