MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The 48th annual Lombardi Golf Classic began Friday at North Hills Country Club.
The event raises money for the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. This year's event is extra special for Packers kicker Mason Crosby.
Crosby's sister-in-law Brittany was diagnosed with Stage IIIC ovarian cancer in December 2016. When chemo didn't work, Brittany began experimental treatments and recently got news her tumors are stable.
She is speaking and sharing her story at the golf classic's annual gala on Friday night.
Organizers hope the entire event will raise around $150,000 for cancer care and research -- something Brittany said has made all the different throughout her fight against the disease.
"The Lombardi Foundation that's what they really support and fund," she said. "[Research] that's what is saving my life and helping this to not be as terrifying as a thing."
Several other Packers players are expected to attend the golf classic on Saturday. The event is open to the public to watch. More information can be found on the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation website.
