Man arrested on city bus after injuring four people in chain reaction crash in Mount Pleasant

Four people were taken to the hospital following a four-vehicle chain reaction crash in Mount Pleasant Wednesday morning.

Officers with the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to Durand Av. and Oakes Rd. for a multiple-vehicle injury accident, shortly before 10 a.m.

The investigation revealed that a Chevrolet Venture was traveling eastbound on Durand when it struck a vehicle stopped in traffic for the red light. According to police, it did not appear that the striking vehicle made any attempt to stop.

This caused a chain reaction with a total of four vehicles involved. All vehicles were towed from the scene and four adults were taken to a local hospital. Their injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. 

The operator of the striking vehicle fled the scene on foot. The suspect was located on a city bus and taken into custody. He is being identified as a 48-year-old male from Illinois.

The suspect faces charges of OWI Causing Injury, Hit and Run Causing Injury, Obstructing an Officer, Operating Without a Valid Drivers License, Inattentive Driving, and Driving Without Insurance.
