Mequon Police investigating 7 thefts from motor vehicles, two vehicles reported stolen

MEQUON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Mequon Police Department is investigating seven thefts from motor vehicles, two stolen vehicles, and one burglary.

It all happened in the overnight hours on July 6.

Mequon Police say they've also taken several other reports of thefts from motor vehicles and stolen vehicles in the last two weeks between the hours of dusk and 5 a.m.

The affected area is N. Wauwatosa Road (N 76th Street) and W. Mequon Road.

Police say that it does not appear that the suspects break in, rather they find vehicles that are unlocked and have keys in them.

Mequon Police are reminding residents that crime in Mequon is chiefly a crime of opportunity. They also add, "Please lock your vehicles, do not leave keys or valuables in your vehicles, and remove the garage door opener if the vehicle is left outside."
