Milwaukee alderman wants to make feminine hygiene products free in city building restrooms

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A Milwaukee alderman wants to bring equality to restrooms in city buildings.

Cavalier Johnson says feminine hygiene products should be available for free.

He adds that men don’t have to worry about not having the essentials they need in a bathroom and says women shouldn’t have to worry either.

“If a woman goes to the restroom and needs something for biological needs, it’s not there. If it is there, she needs to pay a quarter for it. If I’m not being charged for toilet paper, she shouldn’t be charged for a tampon,” 2nd District Ald. Cavalier Johnson said.

Johnson says he brought the idea to other council members who are supportive. Money from the city’s 2018 budget has been set aside to kick off a pilot program.
