Milwaukee Art Museum Renovations Near Completion

After 6 years of planning and 14 months of construction, crews are putting the finishing touches at renovations at the Milwaukee Art Museum.

Over the past year, crews have been working hard in the galleries located in the museums two older buildings, owned by the county. They were in crucial need of infrastructure repairs.

Now the gallery space has grown to a total of 150,000 square feet, with 2,500 pieces of art on display, that’s a 1,000 more than before.

Some of those pieces will be featured in the brand new 10,000 square-foot space devoted to photography, film, video installation, and media art.

There's also spectacular views of Lake Michigan from the new lakefront entrance.

This area will also serves as a small wine, coffee, and snack bar.

And while there is art of every variety, Keegan believes the renovated museum will change the city.

"I believe it continues to be identified as one of the up-and-coming cities in America. It's been called the Portland of the Midwest and we believe the Milwaukee Art Museum is a leader in the effort to transform The experience of this great city," said Keegan.

Members of the museum will be able to check the new facility November 21 and 22.

The official grand reopening celebration will take place on November 24.

The museum will offer free admission to the galleries on December 3 and December 6.
