Jacob Kittilstad started the New Year by welcoming the coordinators of the Racine County Foster Care system onto the program. They are planning to host a pair of informational sessions for people who have an interest in becoming foster parents. The recruitment is in response to a growing need in Racine County. Coordinators say the opioid crisis has affected my young families in Southeastern Wisconsin – and some situations have led to children not being safe in their own homes. The goal for most children is to someday be reunited with their families, while others sometimes are adopted by their foster parents. Click here for more information

Next the Racine Theatre Guild visited to talk about their latest production: Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. This is described as this: Vanya and his adopted sister, Sonia, are living out their middle age in an old farmhouse in Bucks County, Pennsylvania after years of caring for their Chekhov-loving parents. But their routine changes dramatically once their famous sister Masha returns with home with her latest fling, a twenty-something-year-old named Spike. Click here for more information

The start of the 2018 Winter Olympics is quickly approaching – and that usually means a boost of interest at the Racine Curling Club. The group will be hosting a number of free learn-to-curling events for people who would like to see how difficult the sport actually is. Some members say that they’ve been practicing for more than a decade and still consider themselves novice-amateurs. Click here for more information

Lastly, an organizer of Burlington’s Hot ChocolateFest 2018 joined Jacob to talk about the event that lives up to the city’s nickname. The event prominently features hot chocolate and includes a competition between participating businesses around the downtown area (the public is able to vote in these free tastings). Also, “broomball” will be a prominently featured sport with pick-up games happening throughout the weekend. Click here for more event information
