Thousands participate in Drumstick Dash to help Feeding America

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Thousands of people showed up to Miller Park early Thanksgiving morning to take part in the annual Drumstick Dash.

The 5-K race is not just a way to make room for the big meal, it's for a good cause too. Part of the registration fees will go to Feeding Ameria.

Runners and spectators were also encouraged to drop off food and monetary donations.

"We can use our feet to help make people have food and shelter and be comfortable and it's Thanksgiving and if you can't give to something, what's the point? That's what this whole country is about, just making sure if you have enough that you can share with other people," said runner Chuck Garbedian.

Feeding America says they had about 4,000 runners this year.
