Two treated for smoke inhalation following fire in duplex

Two people have been treated for smoke inhalation, one at St. Mary’s Hospital, following an early morning fire on Milwaukee’s north side.   The fire was reported around 12:30 AM Saturday in a 2-story duplex at N 86th and W Melvina Streets.  

According to the Milwaukee Fire Department, there was heavy fire in the rear of the first floor of the building which extended to the second floor.   The two injured persons were residents of one side of the duplex.   Both were evaluated by medical personnel at the scene and one was taken to the hospital.   The residents of the other side of the duplex were not injured.   There were no injuries to any firefighters.

Damage to the duplex is estimated at $125,000.   The cause of the fire is under investigation.  

The Red Cross was called and is assisting the two families living in the duplex along with one family pet.
