Aaron Rodgers could opt out of 2021 season, deadline on Friday

GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It is an important day for negotiations following the Aaron Rodgers saga on Friday, July 2.

The MVP quarterback could opt out of the season on Friday.

If he does, he wouldn't have to pay back his signing bonus or roster bonus of about $18 million dollars. The move is unlikely, because he wouldn't be able to play for the Packers or any other team.

According to an ESPN report, the Green Bay Packers have talked to Rodgers recently. They say the talks are still early and nothing substantial has been decided yet.

Further reports out of Green Bay say the team is also looking to sign wide receive Davante Adams to a massive contract.

The all-pro is entering his final season of a four year deal. According to ESPN, a contract extension could make him the highest paid wide receive in the league. Reports say Adams' extension is a priority for the team going into this season.
