Craig Counsell earns 500th career win as Brewers Manager

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Craig Counsell has achieved quite a lot during his time in the MLB; from winning two World Series, to finishing his playing career with his hometown favorite Brewers, Counsell can now add 500 wins as the Milwaukee Brewers Manager to his resume.

Counsell reached the 500 win mark in thrilling fashion Friday night, August 6, as Rowdy Tellez singled home Avisaíl García in the 10th inning to give the Brewers a 2-1 win over the San Francisco.

For the Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, native, the feat means more than just another record.

“I see this as a real responsibility,” said Counsell in his postgame press conference. “I feel responsible for baseball in this city. I’m grateful that I’ve gotten that opportunity, grateful I’ve been able to kind of take that ride and be a part of it. More than anything, that’s the part of it that I still love and enjoy is having that responsibility in this city, the city I grew up in, the team I grew up rooting for and got to play for.”

The red-hot Brewers are in second place overall in the National League with a record of 66-44 on the year.

Milwaukee looks to improve on that record tonight and continue strong towards the playoffs with an outing against the Giants tonight at 6:10 p.m. from American Family Field.
