Elderly drowning victim found in Vilas County

After a man was reported missing on a boating trip on Lac Vieux Desert Lake in Vilas County, several agencies in the area searched for him. On Saturday morning, the deceased man was located in the water.

A 911 call came in at 11:08 p.m. Friday to the Vilas County Sheriff's Office that reported the man missing. He was last seen around 7:30 p.m.

Deputies were able to locate the man's boat, but not the man, on Friday.

With the help of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Phelps Fire Department and Phelps Ambulance, the Vilas County Sheriff's Office was able to locate the man's body at 8 a.m. Saturday.

The cause of the drowning is under investigation. The man's name will be released pending further investigation and notification of family.

The man was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident. Authorities remind everyone to have and wear appropriate life jackets while on the water.
