Family dog killed in Waukesha fire

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A fire in Waukesha is currently under investigation.

It happened around 12:35 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of Cherrywood Drive. 

The homeowners called 911 after they returned home to find a fire in their kitchen.

There was smoke damage throughout the home.

Officers located a dog on the 2nd level and despite attempts to resuscitate it, the dog passed away.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The fire origin appears to be behind the refrigerator.

An initial damage estimate is approximately $35,000.
