Fundraisers for K-9 Riggs' recovery may be a scam, warns Kenosha County Sheriff's Department

KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department has received reports of scammers tied to the recovery efforts of K-9 Riggs.

Riggs was shot and wounded on Oct. 21, after helping take down a homicide suspect.

On Oct. 24, Riggs walked out of the veterinarian hospital in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, on his own and is expected to make a full recovery.

The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department say they've been made aware of people raising money for Riggs. Though they may have good intentions, KSD said it may be a scam.

If you would like to donate to K-9 Riggs' recovery, or the KSD K-9 program, the department asks you make a check out to the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department and mail it to them (1000 55th St #1, Kenosha, WI 53140) to ensure your donation goes to what you intended it be used for.
