Gov. Evers, DHS announce $175 million to support COVID-19 testing in schools

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) --- Wisconsin Governor Tony Ever sand the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) announced on Tuesday, April 20 that the state has received more than $175 million in federal funding to develop a program to support school-base dCOVID-19 testing for teachers, staff, and students.

According to officials, the program will be a part of COVID-19 mitigation approach to assist schools in operating safely.

Officials say in March the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced it would be investing $10 billion to increase screening testing to help schools reopen. An additional $2.25 billion will be used to ramp up testing in underserved populations.

“We know this pandemic has been tough on students, educators, and staff and administration alike,” said Governor Evers. “Expanding access to testing is one tool we can use to help decrease disruption in classrooms across the state.”
