Man arrested for 2nd OWI after running stop sign, causing two-vehicle crash which injured a 22-year-old man

RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A two-vehicle crash which sent a 22-year-old Franklin man to the hospital with serious injuries is currently under investigation.

Racine County Sheriff's Deputies were called to the area of Highway 36 and Highway J in the Village of Rochester for a two-vehicle accident.

It happened around 11:42 p.m. on Friday.

Upon arrival, officers located one vehicle lying on its side with significant damage. The 22-year-old operator and only occupant of the vehicle had to be extricated from the vehicle.

He was taken to a local hospital. There is currently no word on his condition but deputies say he was breathing and talking with first responders.

The operator and only occupant of the second vehicle was also taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a silver Chevrolet Malibu was westbound on Highway J when it failed to stop at a stop sign before driving through the intersection at Highway 36. The Malibu then struck a Toyota Yaris which had the right-of-way while traveling southbound on Highway 36.

The collision sent both vehicles into a ditch.

The operator of the Chevrolet Malibu was identified as a 59-year-old Kenosha County resident. He was arrested for his second OWI.

Formal charges are pending.
