MFD lieutenant resigns after being charged with sexual assault of a child

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A lieutenant with the Milwaukee Fire Department, who is charged with second degree sexual assault of a child, has resigned. 

The Milwaukee Fire Department said Robert Olson's departure was effected at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3. 

Oak Creek police arrested 44-year-old Olson on Wednesday, Nov. 20. 

The fire department released the following statement on Wednesday, November 27:

"The Milwaukee Fire Department is taking this matter very seriously, having immediately opened an internal investigation upon being made aware of the pending arrest and charges. The Milwaukee Fire Department has now received detailed copies of the charging paperwork. Internal department charges were filed November 26, 2019. Fire Lieutenant Olson has been, and will be afforded, his due process rights. It is the Milwaukee Fire Department’s intention to move diligently and with the safety of the public and the protection of the honor and integrity of the Milwaukee Fire Department at the forefront."
