UW-Parkside falls victim to bank fraud, initial losses total $315,000

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The University of Wisconsin - Parkside has fallen victim to a phishing scam costing them thousands. 

In June, a bank flagged some payments from UW System alerting them to the issue. The UW System says they believe it happened when an employee changed routing numbers for two vendors.

Around $315,000 was sent to a scam bank account. Although some of the losses were recovered and with the help of insurance, UW system says Parkside wound up losing a net total of $65,000. 

The FBI and IRS have been notified.
