Decades after flying for the first time, area veterans took off once again from Waukesha County Airport.  Eight veterans flew in a restored 1940’s era biplane for 20 minutes over Waukesha County.

The flights are sponsored by Direct Supply and offered to veterans through the Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation. The organization works to honor veterans who are in senior living communities across the nation.

The veterans who flew on Friday are residents of Capri Communities from around the Milwaukee area. For one man who served in the Cold War, it was his first time in a plane in nearly 50 years.

“It was wonderful,” 81-year-old Army veteran Edwin Green said. “We went around the lake, whatever lake it is, I don’t know! And the golf courses, there were guys down there. [The pilot] did a couple of tilts!”

Since 2011, Ageless Aviation Dreams has given more than 3,000 flights.
