Wisconsin man accused of killing woman's dog with hammer

PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) — A southern Wisconsin man is accused of killing a woman's dog because he was upset the animal was urinating and defecating in the house.

Columbia County sheriff's deputies were called Saturday to a mobile home park in Lewiston Township. The caller said 31-year-old Brandon Shearer of rural Portage was at her house and upset. She said Shearer killed her dog by hitting the animal in the head with a hammer.

Deputies talked to Shearer, who said he was upset with the dog, so he took it outside to put the animal down.

Shearer faces a felony charge of mistreatment of an animal causing death. Cash bond was set at $2,000, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
