3 dead after 2-vehicle crash near Florist and Sherman
MILWAUKEE (CBS58) -- Three have died after a two-vehicle crash near Florist and Sherman on Friday, Nov. 3. The accident took place around 2:00 a.m.
A vigil took place for the three women, who were cousins.
28-year-old Latasha Dyson and Ebony Johnson, along with 31-year-old Lashonda Jackson were the victims of the fatal crash.
“I’ve been her friend since 5th grade, a real outgoing person she loved friend. We always connected together. Loved her mama, her brother, and her sister, said Kizzy John, a friend of Lashonda Jackson.
According to police, a Toyota traveling at a high rate of speed disregarded a red flashing traffic light on West Florist Avenue and collided with a Nissan traveling south on Sherman Boulevard. The impact from the crash caused the Nissan to strike a tree.
"I just heard a noise, I was in bed at like 2 o'clock in the morning," said David Cooper, who resides at the home next to the crash. He added that reckless driving and accidents are a regular occurrence on his block.
Cooper said that his own home was hit by a car a month ago.
"There have been so many accidents like I said, they run into my house twice. And so many accidents happen on this corner. Speeding, running the light, or whatever," said Cooper.
The driver of the striking vehicle, a 23-year-old man, fled the scene on foot, but later arrested and taken to the hospital for non-fatal injuries. He is in police custody.
Milwaukee police say, from Oct. 6 to Nov. 3, they have responded to three reckless driving crashes with 5 fatalities.
Charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
