RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Chicago man is in custody after officials say he stabbed in Uber driver in Madison, stole a vehicle and led deputies on a high-speed pursuit in Racine County.

The sheriff's office says it all started just after 8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 6, when they received information about a stabbing and carjacking of an Uber driver out of Madison. The Uber driver suffered life-threatening injuries. The suspect got away with the Uber driver's silver Toyota Highlander.

A little after 10 p.m., the sheriff's office learned the suspect was driving the Highlander on I-94 in Racine County.

Deputies stopped the vehicle on I-94 northbound, just north of Kraut Road, but when they began to give verbal demands, the suspect drove off and a pursuit began.

The sheriff's office says the fleeing suspect reached speeds of over 120 mph.

At one point, stop sticks were deployed and some of the vehicle's tires started to deflate, but the suspect continued fleeing at speeds of over 100 mph.

The chase, according to the sheriff's office, slowed down when the suspect reduced his speed to around 50 mph. This allowed a deputy to perform a PIT maneuver, immobilizing the fleeing vehicle.

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Antonio Rodgers from Chicago, was taken into custody.

Rodgers was transported to the Racine County Jail, held on a $135K bond for the following charges:

  • 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety – four counts
  • Fleeing and Eluding
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle without Owner’s Consent
