Driver killed after pickup truck hits culvert head-on in Town of Wayne

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The driver of a pick-up truck is dead after the Washington County Sheriff's Office says the pickup he was in hit a culvert.

According to the sheriff's office, the crash happened around 6:45 Friday morning at the intersection of Highway 28 and Townline Road in the Town of Wayne.

Investigators say the pickup was eastbound on Highway 28 and for an unknown reason went left of center after cresting the hill west of Townline Road. The vehicle then went into a ditch before hitting a culvert head-on in the northwest corner of the intersection.

The Sheriff's Office says when officers first arrived, the driver was conscious but not alert and it appeared his left leg was pinned. Authorities say rescue crews tried to free the driver from the vehicle but he died on the scene.

The crash is still under investigation.
