Elkhorn man dies during Lake Mills Triathlon
LAKE MILLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A “medical event” is being blamed for the death of a 59-year-old man in the Lake Mills Triathlon on Sunday, June 2.
It happened around 7:45 a.m. during the swim portion of the three-part athletic competition.
According to a news release from the Town of Lake Mills Police Department, the man from Elkhorn, Wisconsin went under water during the swimming event.
He was pulled from the water by the triathlon rescue personnel, brought to shore, and emergency life resuscitation was performed. He was later taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The initial investigation of the incident, according to the LMPD, found that the man suffered a medical event prior to going under water. As a result, the death is not being considered a drowning.
The identity of the deceased man has yet to be released by the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
