Man dies after drowning in Milwaukee River downtown

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner said a man is dead after drowning in the Milwaukee River on Saturday, Aug. 21.

Officials said the man died from his injuries on Sunday.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- Milwaukee Fire Department divers pulled a man out of the Milwaukee River early Saturday morning, Aug. 21.

It happened near Water and Mason shortly before 6:30 a.m. 

Officials say a bystander heard screams for help from a man in the Milwaukee River. Police say the victim fell in the river and was drowning.

The divers got the victim, a 34-year-old Milwaukee man, out of the water about 17 minutes after they received the call.

The man sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
