New organization partners with Bucks to hire workers at, around new arena
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The Milwaukee Bucks have partnered with a new group, The Milwaukee Area Service and Hospitality Workers Organization, to help recruit, train and place workers for jobs at the new Bucks arena and the surrounding district.
MASH was launched Friday at a press conference announcing the details of the partnership. As part of the agreement, the MASH will help the Bucks and surrounding businesses hire workers. The wages for the workers will start at $12.50 an hour and go up to $15 by 2023.
A requirement of the partnership is that half of the jobs in the district must be filled by people living in certain zip codes of the city that are hit hardest by low wages and high unemployment. Additionally, employers in the district must hire workers exclusively through MASH.
Those zip codes are:
53204
53205
53206
53208
53210
53212 (within Milwaukee city limits)
53215
53216
53218
53221 (north of Howard Ave.)
“We’re looking to hire close to 1,000 people in the entire district and in the arena,” Bucks senior vice president Alex Lasry said. “These are going to be a mix of full time and part time jobs but everything that we’re going to be hiring is going to be paying family supporting wages.”
MASH began recruitment on Friday and plans to set up job fairs in the coming weeks. For more information on how to apply, visit the MASH website.
