RACINE, WI (CBS 58) -- Jenna Crawford from the Wisconsin Humane Society joined us to talk about the array of services their staff perform each and every day.

Racine General Services Our beautiful Racine Campus offers several services to the public including: Adoption All of our adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. Animals available for adoption are listed on our website www.wihumane.org/adopt. The website is updated in real time, so any animals you see online are ready for a new home. First, you’ll fill out an adopter profile, and then you need to book an appointment online to meet an animal at the Racine Campus. Kids’ programs WHS offers both virtual and in-person programs for kids including field trips, birthday parties, camps, kids’ night out, and girl & boy scout programs. All of these fun activities are educational and engaging – and of course, the kids get to meet some of the animals in our care. Our youth programs are for kids ages 4 to 18. Stray animal holding Any animals brought into our campus, either by a public citizen or law enforcement, are kept and cared for during a stray holding period. These 5 days give the animal’s owner an opportunity to find and reclaim their pet. A photo of every stray is put on our website, making it easier for someone who has lost their pet. If the animal isn’t redeemed during the stray hold, they begin placement into our adoption program. SNAP (Spay/Neuter Assistance Program) The Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) is designed to reduce pet overpopulation by providing low-cost spay & neuter services to the communities we serve. Services are by appointment only, booked online at wihumane.org/snap. You’ll have an opportunity to add services such as microchip, flea preventatives, and some vaccines. In order to qualify for SNAP, you must demonstrate financial need by meeting certain criteria and showing proof of that criteria. Vaccine clinics WHS offers low-cost vaccine clinics that are open to the public. Appointments are required and those can be made on our website. Some vaccines offered are Rabies, DHPP, FVRCP, Bordetella – and you can also purchase flea preventatives. Our Racine Campus has three more vaccine clinics through the end of the year: November 18, December 2, December 16 – all between 10am-12:30pm. Surrender services We understand there are sometimes circumstances that prevent you from keeping your pet. If you have to make the difficult decision to surrender, WHS can help. When you bring your animal to us, he or she will receive a health and behavior assessment. There are no time or space limits at our shelter, which means that if we are able to place your animal in our adoption program, he or she will remain with us until a new, loving home is found. If you’re in need of surrender services, you can call the Racine Campus directly at 262-554-6699. End of life services The Wisconsin Humane Society provides compassionate, low-cost, humane euthanasia services that include communal or private cremation.

If you’re forced to make that incredibly difficult decision, you will need to call the Racine Campus directly to schedule an appointment. We also offer grief counseling at our Milwaukee Campus to help you through this tough time. You may also consider as a final resting place for your pet, Lorraine’s Garden at our Milwaukee Campus. This lovely setting includes a meditation garden and memory walk to honor these special members of our families.
