OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Tonight, a popular restaurant in a busy part of Oak Creek is boarded up, after an SUV crashed inside, leaving significant damages.

It was a Chevy SUV, and witnesses say it came from this street past a row of upscale apartments. The driver blew through the stop sign at Sixth and Town Square Way. She jumped the curb and landed inside Belair.

Oak Creek police got the call at 9:30am, hours before doors opened for the day at Belair Cantina, located in Drexel Town Square. What sounded like an explosion brought neighbors outside to take a look.

"The driver did appear alert when they took her away, so I hope she's ok," said neighbor Lynne Molthen.

The crash took down two sides of Belair, mostly all windows. We saw tipped over tables and shattered glass around the SUV, sitting inside the dining area. Board up crews spent the day securing the building.

"It's a great place. I feel sad this happened," said Molthen.

Drexel Town Square is a busy place - for both residential and commercial, city hall and a library too - and Belair is a popular spot there. So, throughout the day, people were passing by to take a look.

"I heard it from a friend and was pretty shocked. I don't even know how the car made it in," said neighbor Alexandria Stein.

"I came out to see where it got his and how managed it was," said neighbor Alex Klotz.

Alex Klotz noted something - and others did too - when he saw where exactly the vehicle came crashing in.

"Well they lost the tequila (laughs) they had this thing where you could buy a bottle and they would keep the bottles so you could go in and get the drink from that bottle without paying because you already bought the bottle, so yea, everyone lost their bottle," said Klotz.

Oak Creek police tell us the driver, a 37-year-old woman, appeared to have a medical episode prior to the crash. They have not released her condition.
