MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Humans and beer have a long history together.

Now, here in Milwaukee, there's a spot to learn all about our storied past.

The Museum of Beer and Brewing opened Saturday, May 11.

This is the culmination of 24 years of work by an affiliate of the Wisconsin Historical Society.

The historians finally found a location for their collection of beer history artifacts, the Lincoln Warehouse.

Surprisingly, this is the only beer museum in Milwaukee.

"There is so much history in Milwaukee, not just related to great breweries like Schlitz, and Pabst, and Blatz, and Gettelman, and Miller, but also the entire industry that supplied the brewing industry through the centuries," said Gary Luther, President Emeritus, Musem of Beer and Brewing.

The opening was a soft opening. A grand opening will happen later this summer. But visitors can check it out now, and see oil painting from 1935, depicting the history of brewing, as well as a beer hall of fame display.

The museum is open on Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
