Atheist conference coming to Milwaukee
Atheists are gathering for a conference in Milwaukee this weekend. Rob Moore, head of the Southeast Wisconsin Free Thinkers, or SWiFT, was live in studio during the CBS 58 News at 4 to talk about the conference, and the struggle that atheists or agnostics face in this region. \"It's a fight against prejudice. Secular people, atheists, agnostics are often marginalized at home, at work, in the community. It's a real problem,\" Moore said.
Moore says some people who don't agree with what a church teaches, still go to church. Sometimes they are uncomfortable coming out as atheists in front of their families, or stay in a church for a sense of belonging. \"When they leave the church they are missing the social aspect, we're attempting to provide that for them,\" Moore said.
On Saturday, April 25, SWiFT and other atheist groups are hosting the \"Mythinformation Conference.\" Moore calls it the first secular conference in the history of Milwaukee. Three speakers are scheduled, the historical accuracy of Jesus Christ will be among the many topics discussed.
