Milwaukee Police Praised for Folding Burned American Flag

Milwaukee police officers are getting praise online after properly folding a flag that was burned during Tuesday night's protests outside the Milwaukee Theatre.

The department posted a video on Facebook and it's going viral.

In the first 7 hours of the video being posted, it was viewed more than 31,000 times, and received hundreds of shares.

Milwaukee Police said on Facebook that officers saw a flag burning in the crowd and they quickly grabbed a fire extinguisher.

After putting the fire out, two officers conducted a small ceremony, properly folding the flag.

Many people left comments saying “Thank you,” and “Great Job.”

CBS 58 spoke with a man whose flag was confiscated by police.  Vaun Mayes admits to standing on top of an American flag, but says his flag did not burn.

Thousands of people demonstrated outside the theatre protesting the GOP debate, the Dontre Hamilton case, and several other issues.

There were no other reports of any damage as a result of protests.
