Three Fires Within One Hour

It was a busy Wednesday night for area firefighters.

The Milwaukee Fire department responded to two residential fires.  Both were reported around 8:15 p.m.

Battalion One Firefighters responded to a fire in a 2.5 story home in near N 31st Street and W Juneau Avenue.  The fire was confined to the basement of the structure.  Crews were on scene for about an hour.  Damage is estimated at $15,000 to the building and its contents.  No one was injured in the fire and the cause is under investigated.  The five adults and two children who lived in the home are being assisted by the Red Cross. 

Meanwhile, Battalion Five Firefighters were called to fire in a 2 story single family home near N 39th Street and W Green Tree Road.  The five people living in the home were able to get out without injury and have found alternative housing.   The fire was located on the second floor of the building, but was caught early, limiting damage to around $25,000.  Fire crews were on scene for about an hour.  It is suspected a space heater may have been the source of the fire, but the exact cause has not been determined and the fire continues to be investigated.

The West Allis Fire Department responded to a fire in a vacant commercial building in the 1500 block of S 83rd Street around 9:15 last night.  The fire was confined to one room in the upper level of the building.  Crews were on scene for about 90 minutes.  An estimate of the amount of damage is not yet available and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
