80 Somethings from Wauwatosa Publish Children's Book
Some may assume that moving to a senior living center is the beginning of the end.
For Betty Sydow it was just the next chapter.
"I live at Harwood Place and they have a creative writing group there," Sydow tells CBS 58. "About three years ago I poked my head in the door to see what it was all about. I tried flash fiction, short stories and memoirs and poetry. Then, one day I said I'm going to write a fable."
It was with the help of her friend Carolou Lennon Nelson that she fostered an idea to reach out to the next generation in word and watercolor.
"I asked her if she could would like to illustrate it. She read it and said I've never drawn for a book before," recalled Sydow.
"She told me she had never written a book before," added Lennon Nelson. "So we we're off together."
Their book "The Adventures of A Sparrow Named Stanley" now published through Hidden Timber Books.
Both the illustrator and author are pushing 90.
But don't you dare write them off.
