Two Buildings Damaged by Overnight Fires

Milwaukee firefighters were called twice to a fire in a vacant building in the area of N 53rd Street and W Custer Avenue Monday.  The first call came in around 12:40 AM.  According to Milwaukee Fire Department officials, the 1-and-a-half story, wood frame building was heavy involved when firefighters arrived.  After the flames were extinguished, crews searched the building and found it to be unoccupied.   About five hours later, at 5:40 AM, firefighters returned to the scene after some embers rekindled the fire in an attached garage.   The total damage to the building and its contents is estimated at $260,000.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Around 9:40 PM Sunday, Milwaukee Police Officers on patrol spotted smoking coming from a home at N  23rd and W Hadley Streets.   When the Milwaukee Fire Department crews arrived they discovered multiple spot fires in the building.  No one was in the building at the time of the fire, the cause of which is being investigated.  Damage to the building is estimated at $18,000 dollars.
