UW Milwaukee Arts Building Damaged by Fire Saturday Night

A two alarm fire did an estimated $400,000 damage to the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts Saturday night. According to the Milwaukee Fire Department, the fire was reported around 10:10 PM in the building located at E Kenwood Boulevard and N Downer Avenue.

The fire started in the back staging area of the Arts Building. Firefighters responded after a caller saw flames coming out of the top of the building.

Firefighters were on scene for over an hour. No one was injured. Two other buildings have some water and smoke damage and are closed.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Police and the Milwaukee Fire Department, but appears to be accidental.

All classes in the Peck School of the Arts Building and two nearby buildings are cancelled Monday and Tuesday. Officials are still determining what buildings students will use moving forward.
