1 dead after car crashes into pole, starts on fire in Oak Creek

OAK CREEK (CBS 58) -- Oak Creek Police say a 32-year-old man from Alabama is dead after he struck a traffic light pole, causing his vehicle to start on fire. 

Officials say it happened near 22nd and Ryan Rd., at approximately 2:38 am on Saturday, October 5th.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver, and sole occupant, was traveling westbound when he veered off the road. 

When officers arrived at the scene, they said they saw a fully engulfed vehicle with the driver unconscious and stuck inside.

After simultaneously extinguishing the fire and pulling the man out of the vehicle, it was determined he was not breathing. And after life saving measures were attempted, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Further information on the driver's identify is not being released at this time.
