HAWS helping animals displaced by Hurricane Harvey

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) – HAWS of Waukesha is getting a plane load full of pets from the Houston area.

The pets landed in Waukesha around 2:00 Monday afternoon. The dogs are displaced shelter pets, meaning they were already in shelters before Hurricane Harvey.

Shelters in Texas need to make space for animals in need of emergency shelters or whose owners are known and are local to ensure they can be reunited.

“We're working with two primary partners on this, that's the Humane Society of the United States, they are the organized folks with the rescuers on the ground and then Wings of Rescue are the volunteer pilots that have flown the animals in,” says Lynn Olenik, Executive Director at HAWS.

HAWS is looking for foster homes for these pets for about two to three months. To register as a HAWS Foster Home, please call the shelter at 262-542-8851, x0.
