Milwaukee Fire Department highlights challenges for first responders
SOUTHEAST Wis. (CBS 58) -- If you plan on drinking and driving this New Years weekend, Southeast Wisconsin law enforcement officers will be out looking for you.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff announced that there will be hundreds of officers patrolling the roads, looking for drunk and reckless drivers over the weekend.
In 2016, 193 people were killed by drunk drivers in Wisconsin.
So far this year, the Sheriff's Department has arrested nearly 850 people for OWI's with an average bac of .15 which is nearly twice the legal limit.
If you're out on the roads this weekend and you see someone driving recklessly, here's what the Sheriff says you should do.
"So the good citizens of our country, we ask you to pay attention, be safe, stay as far away from anyone that's showing reckless behavior and call 911 if you can and we'll try and get a squad there as quick as we can."
Everyone who gets pulled over this weekend will get a note from the Sheriff's Department with safe driving tips, in addition to a ticket.
