Ice Castles returning to new location in Wisconsin

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Ice castles are coming back to Wisconsin this year, but to a new location.

Ice Castles creates life-size winter playgrounds entirely by hand each season in six cities across North America. Artisans hand-place hundreds of thousands of icicles. Color-changing LED lights embedded inside the ice illuminate the castles at night and twinkle to music. The breathtaking works of art have become a must-see winter attraction and social media sensation drawing millions of people from all over the world since its inception in 2011.

This winter the Ice Castles will arrive in Lake Geneva along with five other Ice Castles locations in Midway, Utah; Dillon, Colorado; Stillwater, Minnesota; Lincoln, New Hampshire; and Edmonton, Canada.

Ice Castles features ice-carved tunnels, fountains, slides, frozen thrones and towering ice formations. This will be the company’s second time to build the icy experience in Wisconsin. Two years ago, Wisconsin Dells hosted the attraction, drawing tens of thousands of people to the area.
